Scope and Content Chambered cairn known as the Calf of Eday Long, Eday, Orkney This is the Calf of Eday long cairn. It is now in a rather ruinous and overgrown state though two chambers are still visible. It is a multi-period monument and was excavated in 1936. This is a view of the rectangular chamber. It was built later than the chamber at the W end and it is split up into stalls formed by upright slabs of stone. The cairn was excavated in 1936. Sherds of Unstan pottery, flint tools and two stone axes were found in the longer chamber. No bones were recovered, due to the soil conditions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
