Scope and Content Seaview Iron Works (Dock Foundry), Commissioners Street, Bo'ness, Falkirk This shows the interior of the light foundry with a mould being poured from two single-man ladles of molten iron (handshanks). Because the mould cavity is thin, two ladles are being used to ensure that the mould fills properly. This foundry was built in part on the site of the Bo'ness Pottery. It closed in the early 1980s, and the goodwill was taken over by the other Bo'ness foundry, A Ballantyne & Sons Ltd. The Dock Foundry was demolished and the site used for a supermarket. This foundry was established in 1900 by Stewart & Moir. Originally it was a general foundry, making, among other objects, gates and railings. By 1971 it was owned by the Bo'ness Iron Co Ltd, and made mainly road castings, but also some seat ends and gratings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
