Scope and Content Ferryman's hut, Ardentinny, Argyll This small building appears to have been used as a bothy for ferrymen operating an open-boat ferry across Loch Long from Ardentinny to Coulport, part of a route avoiding a long road journey round the head of Loch Long. This view shows the building from the road side, with the modernised ferry slipway to the left. Note that there seem to have been two fireplaces. This ferry may have ended with the coming of steamboats, which rapidly created a web of services in the upper Firth of Clyde and the associated sea lochs after 1820.
