Scope and Content A large collection of photographic copies of material relating to Glen House (The Glen), including four photograph albums dating 1894-5, 1907-8, 1912 and 1937, containing interior and exterior views of the house, and views of the estate. Also a photograph c.1850, which predates David Bryce's extension to the house; drawings for the glasshouses by Mackenzie & Moncur, 1911, and drawings showing unexecuted alterations to the house by C W Swanson, 1923. Further material relating to Glen House, Scottish Borders, including perspectives by Bryce from 1854-8; drawings of details by Bryce, 1855-75; a drawing of the drains, possibly by James Watson, 1842; and drawings of estate buildings at Dryburgh Abbey, 1884-90.

Archive History Lent by the owner to RCAHMS for copying as a Survey of Private Collections, 2008, and accessioned as Acc No 2008/102.Additional material lent for copying, 2010, and accessioned as Acc No 2010/54.

Administrative History The Glen, Traquair, Peebles-shire, country house. The existing house was built in 1854-5 to the designs of the architect David Bryce, for the industrialist Charles Tennant. It was extended in 1874, again by Bryce, and in 1905-7 by Sir Robert Lorimer.
