Date 16/8/2016

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343579

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a close view of Holm Mills Bridge under construction with Holm Mills to its left and the derelict concrete factory and the former Gray's Timber Yard behind. Both these buildings were demolished in 2019. Torvean Golf Course is at bottom of picture with Loch na Sanais at bottom right. Torvean Golf Course was opened in 1962 and extended in the 1980s. It was closed in 2019 to make way for the new road development. Before the ice rink was opened Loch na Sanais provided suitable conditions for both skating and curling. Holm woollen mill was established around 1771 by James Pringle from Brora. It was bought by Edinburgh Wool Company in 1989 and became the Holm Mills Shopping Village. Holm Mills Bridge was opened in 2017. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
