Scope and Content This is a view of the construction of the Holm Mills Bridge and the West Link Road. The construction site is at the derelict concrete factory and the former Gray's Timber Yard and Holm Mills Village is to the left on the far side of the river. The West Link Road curves round at right of picture before joining the Southern Distributor Road at the Holm Roundabout. The Tomnahurich swing bridge over the canal is at the bottom of the picture and Torvean Golf Course is to the right. Holm woollen mill was established around 1771 by James Pringle from Brora. It was bought by Edinburgh Wool Company in 1989 and became the Holm Mills Shopping Village. Torvean Golf Course was opened in 1962 and extended in the 1980s. It was closed in 2019 to make way for the new road development. The West Link Road and the Holm Mills Bridge were opened in 2017. The derelict buildings were demolished in 2019. Archaeological evaluation ahead of development uncovered some prehistoric remains but there is nothing at present (2020) on the record. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
