Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343577

Scope and Content In this view the Bught Park, where the sports facilities for Inverness are congregated, is on the lower left of the picture. The Ice Rink (opened 1968 on the site of Bught House) and the Aqua dome (opened 1997) are on the left. The Highland Archive and Registration Centre, which was opened in 2009, is behind the Ice Rink. The Highland Nurseries and Floral Hall are situated in the walled garden of Bught House, to the right of the Aqua dome. Tomnahurich cemetery, laid out in 1863, is coming into view at the bottom of the photo. Torvean Golf Course is on the right of the canal crossing at Tomnahurich. This course was opened in 1962 and extended in the 1980s. It was closed in 2019 to make way for the new road development. This photo has been taken when the West Link road was being constructed (2016) and at centre right can be seen some construction activity at the site of the new bridge over the River Ness. This bridge has been named Holm Mills Bridge and was opened in 2017. Holm Mills is to the left of the construction site. Holm woollen mill was established around 1771 by James Pringle from Brora. The Mill was bought by Edinburgh Wool Company in 1989 and became the Holm Mills Shopping Village. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
