Description An oblique aerial view of Coulnabottach, Urchany, near Kilmorack, looking SW.

Date 8/4/2015

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343519

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The image shows the ruins of one of the settlements at Urchany, called Coulnabottach on old estate maps. The remains represent a shepherd's house constructed in the early 19th century. The remains of the previous pre-improvement settlement can just be made out above the modern post-and-wire fence, that runs across the photo. A large prominent cup-marked boulder, known to antiquarians, can be seen in the angle between the R end of the building and the nearby enclosure wall. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
