Scope and Content This image shows the croft land of Upper Farley, west of Beauly. The iron age fort of Dun a' Chliabhain is the stoney prominence top middle. The scattered forest towards the top is mid-20th century plantations on the site of the extensive Farley Forest that was extensively cleared in 1918. Montrose is said to have encamped in Farley Forest after his retreat from the Battle of Auldearn 1645. In the scattered woodland down and to the R of the dun is an extensive medieval field system surveyed by the Ordnance Survey in 1970. The large building on the R is a newly constructed house built by the landowners, Hatfield Farms. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
