Description Oblique aerial view of Findhorn shoreline, with Harbour and piers, Moray, looking SE.

Date 7/8/2014

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343435

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Findhorn harbour formerly functioned as the port for Forres, and was busy in the 18th and 19th-C. The turf-roofed buildings to left of dinghy storage area are ice houses, scheduled by HES, along with an adjacent WWII pillbox. Note anti-tank blocks on foreshore in foreground, presumably a continuation of the defence line at the seaward side of the caravan park (intervening sections presumably having been removed). Flint arrowhead and flint knife finds are recorded in tidal area between harbour and distant promontory. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
