Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland
Catalogue Number DP 343419
Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content A view with Sainsbury's superstore in foreground, looking over the A96 and the railway line to The Bar, inland of which is a tidal lagoon containing the remains of poles set in the mud to act as wartime glider traps (much of the site is visible in the image, but not the poles themselves). The site is a scheduled Ancient Monument. Although details are not visible in the image, there are various agricultural and possible occupation archaeological features in the car park and L-shaped green area within the Sainsbury's parcel (see D3305), and in the green field (Balmakeith) to the E, but none are visible in the image.
