Date 22/7/2014

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content This general view gives a very good picture of the main arteries into Inverness. The A9 runs down from top left to right of picture and on the left hand side of the road are Raigmore Estate, Raigmore Hospital, Culcabock village, Culcabock Estate, the Police HQ and part of Inshes Retail Park. The A96 runs along the top of the photo with the Inverness Retail Park and the UHI campus below it. The B9006, following the original line of the A9, runs from lower left to centre right. The hospital was established in the grounds of the Raigmore Estate in 1941 though the present buildings date from the 1970s, the Culcabock housing estate was built in the 1970s, the present Police HQ was built in the early C21 and the Inshes Retail Park was developed in the 1990s. The Inverness Retail Park was opened at Wester Seafield in 1996 and the UHI campus building at Beechwood Farm was opened in 2015. Prehistoric landscapes were uncovered in pre-development evaluation both at Wester Seafield and Beechwood Farm. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
