Scope and Content Raigmore Hospital began as a facility under the Emergency Medical Scheme and took its first patients in 1941. Wards were built of brick in separate blocks. In 1962 plans for a new general hospital to serve Inverness were put in place and Phase 1 incorporating the Outpatients Department, laboratories, pharmacy and records, was completed in 1971. Phase 2 was opened in 1985, providing wards to replace the old blocks. A maternity unit was built on the site of the original wards in 1988. The hospital's original car park was put in the walled garden of Raigmore House and the wall can be seen at centre right. Above the hospital on the right is the Culcabock estate which was built in the 1970s. Inshes Retail Park, developed in the 1990s, is at top left and the Police HQ is to its right. In 1975 a new police station was opened at Inshes, and when the force was reorganised in the 1990s, a new town centre police station was built in Burnett Road and the Inshes building became the Area Command Centre. A new building was erected behind the 1970s one which was demolished to make the car park. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
