Scope and Content A general view with a promontory fort to the left of the triangle of trees in lower half of the image. It is surrounded on three sides by lower marshy ground occupying former kettle holes. Recent (2018) excavation as part of the Tarradale Through Time project provided much more detailed knowledge of the promontory fort defences. A little lower and to the left of the fort a linear feature and pits within a possible enclosure have been noted on aerial photographs, but not visible in this one. In the centre left the structure closest to the fort on the edge of the cluster of buildings is Gilchrist's medieval church, restored as a mausoleum in the 19th century, and surrounded by a churchyard and enclosing wall. In the fields above the church and below the linear woodland two roundhouses and a road have been identified and a bronze age copper alloy axe as well as a medieval copper alloy brooch have been found.
