Scope and Content Raigmore Hospital began as a facility under the Emergency Medical Scheme and took its first patients in 1941. Wards were built of brick in separate blocks. In 1962 plans for a new general hospital to serve Inverness were put in place and Phase 1 incorporating the Outpatients Department, laboratories, pharmacy and records, was completed in 1971. Phase 2, the tower block on the left, was opened in 1985, providing wards to replace the old blocks. A maternity unit, at centre left, was built on the site of the original wards in 1988. Maggie's Centre, at top right, was opened in 2005. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
