Scope and Content The line of a dismantled branch railway is in the left foreground, a branch from the main line to Aberdeen, serving Fort George. It was opened in 1899 but closed in August 1958. On the left of the photo, just below the line of trees, is the site of Dalyard rectilinear enclosure. The fragments of the ruins of a large building existed in the beginning of the 18th century and the building is supposed to have been either a religious house or fortalice belonging to the Knights-templar. Though now in a cultivated field, agricultural operations have not entirely obliterated traces of the surrounding fosse.
