Description Aerial view of Glendoe works area, looking SE.

Date 2/6/2012

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 342792

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The photo shows the works area for the Glendoe pump storage hydroelectric scheme which was originally opened in 2009. The power station is fed from a reservoir on the upper reaches of the River Tarff. However, a rock fall in the main power tunnel closed the station two months after opening. Eventually an expensive parallel tunnel was constructed to bypass this rockfall, the power station then reopening in 2012, around the time of this photo. The B862 road on the L and then top of the photo runs along the S side of Loch Ness, following the line of General Wade's military road. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
