Scope and Content Farm village which became an early Highland industrial site. Using hydroelectric power, Foyers aluminium smelter opened in 1896 and closed in 1970. Houses for factory workers, a pavilion and a bus garage were built to service the new working population. On closure of the factory, a new pump store power station was built near the factory site.
