Aerial view of Ruthven Farm steading, S of Dores, Loch Ness, looking SSE.

DP 342722

Description Aerial view of Ruthven Farm steading, S of Dores, Loch Ness, looking SSE.

Date 26/3/2012

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 342722

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Ruthven farmsteading with sheep being sorted. On the outside (W) side of the steading are the remains of a horse mill visible on current OS mapping but not shown on earlier OS mapping. In the square stone-dyked enclosure (whose walling is no longer evident on current aerial mapping) can be seen on the SW of the farmsteading a series of regularly-placed circles, possibly ditched, and as many 27 can be identified. These are too regular to be the remains of cattle feeding rings and are more probably the stone footings for hay or corn stacks. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
