Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content Tain is on the left, the railway line from Inverness to the north is in the centre. In the distance is the Dornoch Firth, Dornoch Bridge and Ness of Portnaculter. In the immediate foreground by the river is the possible site of the early Medieval settlement of Tain and the remains of St Duthus chapel and burial ground. By the pond is the site of the livestock market. There are numerous Canmore and HER references for Tain. One marks the site of Tain Castle, 16c?, now almost obliterated by the Railway hotel. Glen Morangie Distillery is in the distance by the shore. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
