Scope and Content This is a close view of the Royal Northern Infirmary, Inverness. It was opened in 1804 and remained Inverness' principal hospital until Raigmore Hospital opened. Gradually departments were transferred to Raigmore and a community hospital was built in the grounds to the left of the main building. The old hospital then became the headquarters of the University of the Highlands and Islands. New housing was built in the remaining grounds of the hospital. The Tweedmouth Memorial Chapel was added on the south of the main building in 1896-98. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
