Scope and Content This photograph covers an historical part of Inverness. It is a close view of the north-east end of Academy Street, Church Street and Bank Street. The Greig Street suspension bridge crosses the river between the Free North Church and the Old High Church and the area in the foreground is the site of the Rose Street Foundry, now converted into retail units and car parking. The site of the Dominican Friary is to the right of the Old High Church, now occupied by the buildings of the Telephone Exchange, Fraser's Undertakers and the Free Presbyterian Church. Along the riverside there are C18 houses in Douglas Row. On the far side of the river are several historical sites. The C18 Balnain House is the white building set back to the right of the bridge and the West Parish Church is to the immediate left of the bridge. The white building at top of picture is the hotel built in 2010 on the site of the Palace Cinema. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
