Aerial view of central Inverness, looking SSW.

DP 342574

Description Aerial view of central Inverness, looking SSW.

Date 3/2/2012

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 342574

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a close view of the centre of Inverness, though not many of the sites recorded within the area can be seen clearly. The Eastgate Centre, the station and the bus station are at the bottom of the picture. The Castle is just above centre. Though there is a record of a castle in Inverness going back to the C12, this present building dates from the C19 and very little relates to earlier structures. At present (2020) it functions as the Sheriff Court. Towards top right of picture is the Northern Meeting Park and behind it is Eden Court Theatre. The Northern Meeting Park was established in 1864 as the world's oldest highland games stadium. Eden Court Theatre was opened in 1976 and was completely refurbished between 2005 and 2007. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
