Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content The photo has picked up a series of mounds and hollows in a field W of Braelangwell on the Black Isle. At the NE corner (i.e. bottom R) of the nearest field is an area of disturbed ground, with apparently a brick building on it. Aerial photos in 2020 show that this building is now removed, and the field under cultivation. 1st edition OS map shows there was a hexagonal enclosure, inside which trees were growing, at this site - probably a tree nursery. Recent aerial photographs show the building removed and the disturbed ground now ploughed out. A circular enclosure, possibly an estate woodland enclosure was identified for the first time in 2018 in the woodland at the bottom R of the photo. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
