Scope and Content This is a close view of the Muirtown Basin and Sea Lock Basin of the Caledonian Canal at Clachnaharry, Inverness. There are several sites relating to the Caledonian Canal - the canal workshops can be seen just to the right of centre at the Clachnaharry Lock and the railway swing bridge is sited just above this Lock. The various features relating to the workings of the canal at the sea lock can be clearly seen towards the top of picture. The fishertown of Clachnaharry occupies the triangle of land between the road and the canal and the former school building stands out amongst the C19 cottages. The large modern building just below centre is the Clachnaharry Care Home, closed in 2013, below which is Clachnaharry House. The Scorguie development is to the left of picture. The road has an S bend towards the top of picture, where it crosses the railway line, and among the trees above this is the monument to the battle fought between the Clan Chattan and the Clan Munro in 1454. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
