Scope and Content This is a close view of the Lochaber Aluminium Smelter built by British Aluminium and opened in 1929. In 1982, British Aluminium merged with Alcan and in 2016 the plant was sold to GFG. The plant was established on this site because of the possibility of producing cheap hydro-electric power, and it includes the largest hydro-electric power station in the UK. To the north of the plant is the site of the Battle of Inverlochy, 1645. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
