Scope and Content This circular banked enclosure within an external ditch, bottom middle of the photo, sits on the Druim Mor ridge above Swordale and is partly obscured by a later now abandoned longhouse building and associated structures. The OS 1st edition map shows that this building was still roofed in 1875 and aligned NE/SW with and adjoining small enclosure and a smaller roofed building probably also within this enclosure. There was also another roofed building to the N which can be seen on this photo at c. NH 57502 66194. The polygons for these buildings have been mapped on HC HER and on this photo the W end of the enclosure has been removed by the later track and field to the W. The snow covering highlights former broad rig cultivation across this field. The position of this enclosure on the Druim More ridge and with the chambered cairn (MHG8965/ Canmore 12889) and important collection of cupmarked stones (MHG14145) further to the NE, suggests this may have been a prehistoric ritual monument of some importance. it is unfortunate modern Bing aerial mapping suggests this monument has since been levelled, though the definition on the image is not good enough to define this and a faint circular ring is still visible. The small circular rings with a point are all assumed to be the marks from animal feed rings. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
