Scope and Content This view shows the River Beauly in the foreground and Beaufort Castle (in the very centre, almost hidden in the trees) on the south side of the river. It is on the site of the old fortress of Beaufort, c. 1100. The present castle, reputed to be the latest of 17 castles built on the site, was built in 1885 and was formerly the seat of the Frazers of Lovat. in 1999 it was bought by Anne Gloag of Stagecoach. The village of Kiltarlity is in the distance. In the foreground is a fish farm and Cruives Lodge and North Lodge.
