Date 29/6/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content This view of Inverness Airport at Dalcross includes the outskirts of Ardersier and farms in the countryside between the village and the airport. The runway and the airport buildings can be clearly seen. Inverness Airport grew from an airfield established in 1940 and used during WW2. It opened for civilian flights in 1947 and operates flights to UK airports and some scheduled flights to continental Europe. Also in the distance is the familiar smoke of the Morayhill wood factory where an excavation in 2015-2016 uncovered evidence of prehistoric pottery production. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
