Date 6/2/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content This is a view of the south-eastern area of Inverness, mainly what was the Bught Estate which was bought by the town in 1923. The photo shows the Bught Park with its playing fields, the Ice Rink, opened in 1968, above which is the Aqua dome, opened in 1997, with the Athletics Ground behind. To the left of the Aqua dome is the Floral Hall and Nurseries. The Ice Rink was built on the site of Bught House and the Nurseries are in the walled garden. The Caledonian Canal is towards the top of the photo with the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. The mound covered with trees is the 'Tomnahurich', developed as a cemetery for the town in the C19. The white building at top right is Charleston Academy, opened in 1978. The River Ness can be seen at the bottom of the photo.
