Oblique aerial view down Strathspey from Nethy Bridge to Grantown on Spey, looking NE.

DP 341030

Description Oblique aerial view down Strathspey from Nethy Bridge to Grantown on Spey, looking NE.

Date 27/1/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 341030

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content In the foreground, the partially clear-felled woodland at Mondhuie includes two limekilns. The view extends down the flooded Strath Sgitheach from Nethybridge (right) to distant Grantown on Spey top centre. The course of the former Craigellachie-Aviemore railway line curves across the flooding at lower left on its Spey Embankment, coinciding with the gallows mound of Tom a' Chrochair at the hillock, surrounded by floodwater, with its small block of woodland. Map evidence shows that the flooded area has historically been the subject of an extensive drainage effort. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
