Scope and Content Hamilton and Inches was founded in 1866. The goldsmithing area on the third floor is lined with traditional goldsmiths benches. Goldsmithing is an ancient metalworking craft and art. Like all metalworking, goldsmithing employs various techniques to work the gold including sawing, cutting, forging, melting, casting, beating, soldering, filing, engraving, embossing, enameling and polishing. Goldsmiths also fashion jewellery.
