Archive History The photographs were taken by Professor Jackson in the course of research for the 1976 exhibition 'David Bryce 1803-1876: A Exhibition to mark the centenary of Scotland's Great Victorian Architect', 1976. No formal accession record has yet been identified, but the format of cataloguing indicates the collection would have been deposited with RCAHMS between c.1976 and 1985.

Administrative History Professor Neil McKerrow Thornton Jackson, architect and architectural historian (active 1970s onwards). Neil Jackson studied Architecture at Oxford Polytechnic and at the Polytechnic of Central London, before taking History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art. In 1976 he carried out research and contributed to the exhibition to commemorate the centenary of David Bryce. He subsequently gained a PhD in Architectural History at the Polytechnic of the South Bank, London. Between 1985 and 1990 he was an Associate Professor of Architecture, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, California. Returning to the UK, Jackson was awarded a Readership and taught architecture and architectural history at the University of Nottingham from 1990 and 2000. Between 2009 and 2011 he received a Major Research Fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust and in 2013 he was a Guest Scholar at the Getty Conservation Institute, Los Angeles, California. He is currently (2020) the Charles Reilly Professor of Architecture, University of Liverpool in London, and Professorial Research Associate in the Japanese Research Centre at the School of African and Oriental Studies, University of London.
