Scope and Content A collection of drawn designs for various stages of proposed improvements, new additions and re-modelling at Auldbar Castle and estate including a few c.1820 for additions attributed to John Paterson; the majority are by Alexander Roos, 1843-4, for the castle and gardens, including a highly finished design for Pompeian painted decorations for the drawing room ceiling; a design for a pentagonal porte cochere is attributed to R W Billings; other drawings are by William Burn, James MacLaren, James Leslie of Dundee, and possibly by MacKenzie and Matthews of Aberdeen. Several designs for lodges, stables and farm buildings are by unidentified designers.
System of Arrangement This collection is only partially catalogued and is restricted for conservation reasons.
Access Conditions Some items in the collection have been affected by historic mould damage. They can be accessed in the search room but must remain in the enclosure for health and safety reasons. If removal of enclosure is necessary, please seek advice from Conservation staff.
