Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Punds Water, West Mainland, Shetland The chambered cairn at Punds Water is one of the best preserved examples of a heel-shaped cairn. This is because it was subsequently covered by blanket peat, making the area less hospitable. The area would originally have had agricultural potential. This is a plan of the cairn. The concave facade is to the SE and has the entrance passage at its centre. The passage leads into a trefoil-shaped burial chamber. The walls of the passage and chamber stand to over 1 m in height and use large stones. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
