Scope and Content Fort at Mumrills, Falkirk This Roman fort is at Mumrills. Built on a high plateau, it had several phases of occupation. It may have been destroyed and rebuilt twice before it was finally abandoned. There is an annexe to the W and the Antonine Wall to the N. This view was taken during the excavation of the site. It shows part of the praetorium or commandant's house. The outline of several of the rooms can be seen from the stone foundations. The site was excavated in 1923-8 by Macdonald, and again in 1958-60 with an emergency excavation conducted by the RCAHMS. The fort may have been occupied by a cavalry regiment, the Ala I Tungrorum, and the infantry regiment, the Cohors II Thracum. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
