Description An oblique aerial view of Cartomie Wood, Edderton, Ross and Cromarty, looking SE.
Date 2001
Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland
Catalogue Number SC 1919929
Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content A rather blurred view, with Edderton's 19th century railway station in the foreground. Above and to the left of the railway line clearance cairns, field boundaries and a variety of other features are visible. Some of these have since been excavated ahead of a new access road that now skirts the woodland and they proved to have a bronze or iron age origin although some may be much later. The rough ground in the lower left is the possible site of a battle between the Picts and Danes which may be referenced on the Pictish Symbol stone in Edderton Churchyard. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
