Scope and Content Dunrobin Castle has been the seat of the Sutherland family from the C12. The present building dates to C18/C19, though there are some earlier structures within the more modern mansion. The gardens were laid out in 1845-50 and the garden pavilion houses the museum. This view includes the formal gardens below the castle, the kitchen garden on the left and the pavilion is among the trees on the right.
