SC 1907003

Description An oblique aerial view over moorland at Caolishie, Shinness, Lairg, Sutherland, looking ESE.

Date 2001

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1907003

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content A general view with two roundhouses and a few clearance cairns on the crest of a low ridge in the centre of the picture. Below and left of the lower roundhouse is a break in the rougher vegetation of the ridge. The shadows reveal the hollow through a burnt mound at the lower left of that more open ground. Together they are part of a bronze or iron age settlement scattered across a wide area. In the upper left on either side of a trackway the footings of the former township of Caolishie lie in the area of scattered trees. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
