Scope and Content The Isle of Moy on Loch Moy is in the centre. The obelisk, a monument to Sir Aeneas Mackintosh, is clearly visible. On this site was probably the first residence on the Isle of Moy, built in the early middle ages as a country seat of the Bishops of Moray. Nothing of it now remains, as it was almost certainly of timber construction. It was superseded in 1665 by the Laird's house built by the 20th Laird of Mackintosh at the right hand end of the island. To the right of the island, in the middle of the loch, is the partly artificial Eilean Nan Clach crannog which was used as a temporary prison and place of execution by the clan chiefs.
