Date 1999

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1903178

Scope and Content The railway line between Inverness and Beauly is at the top. The fish trap consists of linear banks of large boulders covered in seaweed and extending for 200m where it turns at right angles. There is an extension to this J-shaped trap, or yair, to the N into the firth, although not seen in this image. On the shore 11 timber uprights are grouped as if for a small jetty. Central to the fish trap is a small fresh water stream, probably for attracting sea trout, etc. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
