Scope and Content A distant view of Portmahomack. In the top centre is Tarbat Old Parish Church where there are references to the many early Medieval carved stones found in the Church Yard. There are the archaeological remains of a peckish monastic settlement below the burial ground. The photo shows an excavation in progress led by Prof Martin Carver. Excavations of the precinct around Tarbat revealed remains of large industrial working areas, for gold, iron, leather, glass.
