Scope and Content Cromarty House in the foreground is a classical Mansion built in 1772, and sits in a designed landscape. It has an ice house, stables and a servants tunnel. The graveyard contains the ruins of St Regulus's chapel. The site of Cromarty Castle was to the left of the house, on higher ground: it dates from 15c and belonged to the Urquhart family. It was demolished in 1772 as the house was being built. Cromarty harbour at the top was constructed circa 1880, and the town played an important part in the hemp industry and fishing .
