Scope and Content The A9 runs from bottom R towards the top of the photo, skirting the N shore of the Cromarty Firth. Shandwick House is virtually hidden in the trees in the centre foreground. It was built 1936-7 to replace Old Shandwick House 1790-1805. Other features are too distant to note. The main Inverness-Thurso railway line north crosses the photo, to the L of the A9.
