Near overhead aerial view of a group of circles and possible cairns E of Torroble, near Lairg, Sutherland, looking NE.

SC 1896300

Description Near overhead aerial view of a group of circles and possible cairns E of Torroble, near Lairg, Sutherland, looking NE.

Date 1998

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1896300

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The image shows a number of small circles and turf-covered cairns (possibly clearance cairns?). These are not recorded on Pastmap. However, near left centre edge, to left of fenceline, two turf-covered cairns are visible, one of which is recorded as a cairn of Neolithic date, situated in a site (Rhian Breck) recorded as containing a Bronze Age hut circle and undated field system. This strongly suggests that the site in the image represents an eastward extension of the Rhian Breck site. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
