Scope and Content The collection comprises: a series of 28 photograph files compiled by Reverend George Hastie from the 1960-90s to record buildings and townscapes of Fife. There is a particular emphasis on recording change and buildings undergoing alteration, construction or demolition are recorded. The files are topographically and alphabetically arranged and include black and white and colour prints, pamphlets, articles and other ephemera relating to the subjects described. Inverkeithing is covered in detail with nine files which include copies of earlier views and a copy of 'The Farm at Backyards' written by Hastie about the family farm. Also includes several themed files including 'Industrial Archaeology' and 'Doocots and Farmsteads' and a small collection of photographic prints of miscellaneous Scottish buildings. Further photographic material comprising miscellaneous views largely relating to Fife. Themed subjects include Smiddies and Mills. Also, a small collection of miscellaneous material. Further additions comprising photographs, pamphlets, slides and miscellanea. Subjects photographed in the late 1960s include Damleys Mill near Kinross; Whitfield Housing scheme, Dundee and Glasgow: those photographed in the 1970s include the Glasgow underground workshops and Waverley Market, Edinburgh, and Fife mills. Further material, including A-S files and negatives. Photographs of Durisdeer Church, Dumfries and Galloway; Fortingall Village, Perth and Kinross; Killin War Memorial, Stirling, and Kinnell War Memorial, Angus, and a descriptive booklet relating to the Kirk at Durisdeer, Dumfries and Galloway, dating from 1990s. A CD of photographs of Taymouth Castle, 1967, and the Kenmore Hotel, 1989. Further material includes accession number 2022/5 which comprises of over 1200 photographs from the 1970s-1990s that record church and other buildings in Scotland.
Archive History The collection comprises several deposits by Rev. Hastie: catalogued, but unaccessioned photographs, probably received in the early 1980s (identifiable by County Run catalogue prefixes); Acc No 1998/33 (photograph files); Acc No 1998/113 (additional photographic material); Acc No 1999/77 (additional photographs, pamphlets, slides and miscellanea); Acc No 2000/35 (additional material, including A-S files and negatives); Acc No 2000/121 (photographs of Durisdeer, Fortingall Village, Killin War Memorial, and Kinnell War Memorial, and booklet relating to the Kirk at Durisdeer), Acc No 2019/18 CD of photographs of Taymouth Castle and the Kenmore Hotel.

Administrative History Reverend George Hastie, Minister of the Church of Scotland and photographer. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Rev. Hastie served the parish of Inverkeithing, and from 1998 the united parishes of Benholm and Johnshaven and Garvock/St Cyrus. As a photographer he specialised in the recording of buildings, townscapes and landscapes, industrial and agricultural archaeology, and buildings undergoing alteration, construction or demolition. His photographic work covers much of southern and eastern Scotland, including Dumfries and Galloway, Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Berwickshire, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Dundee and Angus.
