Scope and Content Cromarty Harbour is to the right. It was built c. 1785 and later modified to serve this busy port. It consists of 2 masonry piers, the south one having a later wooden extension. To the left is Cromarty Hemp works. In the late 18c cargoes of hemp and linen were imported from Russia to be spun and woven at the factory. There are numerous other references to historic houses in Cromarty. On the grassy area in the foreground was the site of a WW1 seaplane base, the remains of wooden slipway supports for the seaplanes can be seen at low tide.
