Scope and Content This shows the stretch of the River Ness (left) and the Caledonian Canal right, from Dochgarroch to Loch Ness. The canal was completed by Telford in 1822. In this section the river was diverted to make room for the canal and the intervening embankment was stabilised with whin and broom, and later with large pieces of specially woven cloth to render it waterproof. Dochgarroch lock is hidden in the trees, a standard masonry walled lock. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
