Scope and Content Cromarty Harbour is at the top. It was built c1785 and later modified to serve this busy port. It consists of 2 masonry piers, the south one having a later wooden extension. At the centre, the three sides of a rectangular building represent the old Cromarty Hemp works. In the late 18c cargoes of hemp and linen were imported from Russia to be spun and woven at the factory. There are numerous other references to historic houses in Cromarty.
