Scope and Content This view shows the village of Lairg (Canmore ID 91465) with the main part of the village on the far side of the river. Lairg is a significant junction of routeways for the north of Scotland and is served by the Inverness-Wick/Thurso railway/station (Canmore ID 5131). Lairg has been and still is an important cattle and sheep market. The surrounding landscape of Lairg has an abundance of prehistoric remains - settlements of hut circles and field systems (Canmore IDs 4981, 5072, 5137 ) and chambered cairns (Canmore IDs 4984, 4985).
